Whether or not the original painting is still available, signed-by-the-artist limited edition prints, numbered 1 to 50, are usually available in several sizes and media. All prints are made from the highest museum-quality canvas or paper, with long-lasting (100+ years) archival inks; they reproduce precisely the color and tone of the original painting. You won’t find this rich quality at most online printing sites.
Canvas prints are more durable than paper, and can be expected to last a century or more. They come either stretched on wooden frames, ready for hanging, or are shipped loose for you to stretch at a local frame shop (a few of my clients have stretched my prints themselves). Because I don’t generally use heavy layers of paint, my Winterboy canvas prints are visually nearly identical to varnished copies of the originals.
Paper prints are less expensive than canvas, and can be even more crisp and colorful than the canvas originals, but they aren’t expected to last as long as canvas prints. They should be matted, framed, and glassed (or plexi-glassed) over for maximum protection.
Artist’s Proofs and Hand-Signed, Numbered Editions
The first paper and canvas prints of an original painting are called artist’s proofs. They are one-of-a-kind, as they exist outside numbered editions (at least the way I use them). If you’re a Winterboy Art collector, meaning you own two or more Winterboy pieces, you’ll have first choice of artist’s proofs, at no additional cost, as new paintings are set up for prints. If you’re not yet a collector, and an artist’s proof is available, you may pay 20-30% more for it than a numbered print — because it’s rarer and will increase in value at a greater rate.
Every Winterboy Art print belongs to a #1 – #50 limited series, based on size. Meaning that there are only 50 prints made of any painting at its original size, 50 at double-size, and 50 at half/other size. Every print is numbered manually, 1/50 to 50/50 (with A.P. added if you’ve acquired an artist’s proof), and then signed by me.
Care of Prints
When handling your canvas or paper prints, avoid leaving fingerprints on the print surface. Be careful not to dent or crease when unrolling or rolling the print. Keep the print out of direct sunlight, and away from smoky and high humidity areas. Be sure that glassed-over paper prints are matted so there’s no contact between glass and print. Canvases can be lightly dusted occasionally, without cleaning agents.
My desire is that your Winterboy Art lasts a long time, and passes from one generation to another.
Order and Shipping Turnaround Time
Paper prints are ready to ship in heavy shipping tubes within 1-3 business days after ordering. Canvas orders are ready for tube or padded package shipping in 3-4 business days. Rush orders are possible, but the printer charges me an additional 25% of the total for them.
My printing and fulfillment house uses USPS and UPS. Shipping times range from 1-7 business days, depending on distance. You’ll receive a tracking number via email as soon as your Winterboy artwork has shipped.
Returns and Damaged Deliveries
Each print is unique, especially after I number and sign them, so I and my printer do not accept returns. However, if your print is damaged when you receive it, please keep all packaging and email us for further instructions.
